The Region 4 STEM Service-Learning Consortium seeks to engage traditionally under represented youth in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through service-learning projects that address environmental challenges.
The Alameda County Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership has chosen the theme, "Creating Solutions for the World We Share" to help youth deepen their understanding of the natural and social ecologies in which we live while discovering ways to use creativity to contribute to a healthy future. The East Bay Depot For Creative Reuse, The Alameda County Office of Education, and StopWaste.Org are working together to help students reduce the impact of year-end locker clean out. Students in SMORE will help design sorting stations and diversion programs to capture reusable and recyclable materials. The East Bay Depot will provide assistance with coordination, volunteers, and transportation of materials and hopes to divert 12,000 lbs of material away from the landfill.
