Locker Leftovers- Creekside

Creekside Middle School partnered with The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse at the end of the 2010-2011 school year to divert reusable & recyclable materials away from the landfill. Volunteers from the Depot worked with students and teachers at Creekside to set up sorting stations during locker clean-out events. The school of 800 students diverted over 1, diagnosis 800 pounds of material to recycling and reuse in just one day.

The school captured:

  • 5 pounds of clothing
  • 15 pounds of pens and pencils
  • 43 pounds of books
  • 83 pounds of assorted teaching materials
  • 106 pounds of binders
  • 110 pounds of reusable items (locker mirrors, hospital shelves, etc)
  • 140 pounds of notebooks
  • 1305 pounds of recycleable materials (used paper, bottles, cans)
